Today, with elections in one of India’s most populous states just a month away, TOI presents the Lost Votes Tech Solutions Challenge. The Covid-induced new normal has made even existing electoral practices seem difficult and the urgency to find an effective, immediate and permanent solution to make our electoral process a more inclusive one has never been greater. This is a unique opportunity for India’s finest tech minds to put on their thinking hats and find a solution that enables voters to bridge the distance between their place of employment or education and their voting centre.
If the shift from ballot papers to EVMs was a generational change, a process that creates a tech platform enabling voting to happen remotely would be the next big transformation. The Lost Votes Challenge is an opportunity to be a part of this shift. And partnering with TOI in this effort are GitHub and IBM, two of the biggest names in technology.
To develop a better understanding of the problem and the possible technology to build a solution, participants can attend exclusive workshops and webinars conducted by TOI and our partners. The solutions we receive will be reviewed by a jury of eminent personalities comprising technology leaders and subject matter experts. Teams also get to be mentored by the finest tech minds in the country. The best three ideas will win cash prizes and the one found to be the best will be presented to the Election Commission of India.
So, what are you waiting for? Join hands with the Lost Votes Challenge, win fame for yourself in the pages of TOI and make sure that the next time a state goes to vote, no vote is lost because someone who wants to vote can’t get to his or her polling booth on that one day. This small step for India’s innovative techies can be a giant leap for our democracy
